kidsREAD Training Workshop@NLB

Last Saturday, 12 January 2008, drummers went to NLB for kidsREAD training workshop, which is part of the CIP arranged for drummers. Basically, we were trained to tell stories for children aged 4 to 8 years old. The facilitators had conducted an exciting workshop which had greatly aroused our interest of being storytellers. During the training workshop, we were asked to plan for a reading session and present our plan to everyone. The CIP will start soon, in which we'll have to commit one hour each week and will be working in groups of 5, and each of us will get a chance to be a storyteller. Before the reading session, we'll have to select books and prepare for the session. Activities such as craft, games, songs, poetry, and drama will also be conducted to supplement the reading session. Also, we will divide the class according to age range or reading ability (1 volunteer to every 5 kids). This programme will last about 3 months. It will be a fruitful experience with the kids as we can inspire them to read and help improve the reading ability of the less fortunate children and at the same time, learn valuable qualities such as patience in dealing with the children.

Say cheese!
